This sleaf-peeper is a sucker for the roadside stands that seem to be everywhere on the backroads of Maine and New Hmpshire. One of my favorites is Stone Farm in Arundel Maine, because it’s only a short bike ride from home. They offer organic greens, cukes, carrots, tomatos, and more, refrigerated and ready to go any time. Another regular stop this summer and fall is Full Moon Farm in Wolfeboro, NH which offers a wide selection of flowers and bouquets, in addition to veggies and berries, in season.
Late in the summer a field of sunflowers grew alongside Wentworth Rd. (Rt 109), just east of Lake Wentworth. Just pull off the road, pick your bunch of sunflowers, and leave $5 in the collection box.
In these days of AI (artificial intelligence), automated vending machines, and plastic credit cards, it just feels great to stop in a self-serve farm stand, support a locl farmer, and drop the cash, on your honor, in the box!
