On the drive to Lake Winnipesauke, in Wolfeboro, NH there was a brief discussion about getting a muffin or pastry somewhere. “How about that little place in Brookfield on the way to the lake, across from the house with the trains?” It sounded quaint. I’d never been there, and that became our pastry destination, Nana’s Calico Dress, on Wentworth Road.
What a wonderful way to start the day! As we made our choices from a selection of homemade pies. cookies, cinnamon rolls, etc. we could hear the hens in the barn behind the shop celebrating as they laid their eggs. We selected a cinnamon Roll and chicken pot pie for dinner, and poked around the shop for a few minutes. Everywhere I looked there was something unique, and locally made. My favorite was the wind chime made of an old tea pot and spoons.
